“One of the Best Kept Secrets In South West Georgia”
In an effort to provide low cost power to Crisp County citizens, an area of the Flint River, approximately 10 miles west of Cordele, GA was dammed in 1930 making Crisp County the first county in the nation to own and operate it's own power plant. This created the beautiful Lake Blackshear that homeowners and vacationers enjoy today.
Spanning an area of approximately 8700 acres and featuring 97 miles of shoreline there is plenty of room for the avid fisherman and the hearty recreationist to co-exist in harmony. The lake supports a variety of game fish including several species of bass, sunfish, perch, crappie, catfish and hosts yearly national bass fishing tournaments that bring participants from all over the nation.
Adjacent to Lake Blackshear is the 1300-acre Georgia Veterans Memorial State Park, established as a permanent memorial to the U.S. Veterans who served, fought, and died for our freedom. An excellent source of information on the park’s resort accommodations, marina, activities, eating establishments, four star-rated golf course and area attractions can be found at:
Bordering five counties, the Lake Blackshear area has a variety of home styles and prices to choose from. Make lake living your life and your leisure!
